mr + mrs carr // late november wedding full of romance and whimsy // the grove // aubrey, tx
November 30, 2017
I will always remember 2017 as the year of overcast weddings. Out of the 17 I've had the pleasure of shooting this year, I can count the ones filled with sunshine on one hand. My weather apps have never been checked so often, and my prayers have never been filled with so many requests for sunlight and against thunderstorms as they have this year. This wedding was easily my most-anticipated event of the year, and it was the only wedding in 2017 that was predicted to be lit with "brilliant sunshine". Thank you, Jesus.
This wedding was so meaningful for so many reasons. Since I started shooting weddings full time in 2015, I have been absolutely in love with The Grove, a stunning, customizable wedding venue located in Aubrey, TX. I would have had my own wedding there if they had been available on the weekend we were planning for (but they're amazing, so they were already booked!!) When Maddie reached out in February about the intimate wedding she was planning with her high school sweetheart at The Grove in late November, I was P U M P E D. You can only imagine how much more honored I felt when I met with her, her mom, and her sister and learned that they weren't just planning a wedding at The Grove --- they OWNED The Grove.
The Baldwin family bought the property that is now The Grove while searching for a wedding venue for their oldest daughter, Lauren. She fell in love with the property and knew it would be a fantastic place for couples and their families to celebrate new marriages. Although they hadn't built the venue in time for her own wedding, they knew it was a great investment for their family. Since then, the Grove has served as the site for many astonishing weddings and styled shoots. It blew my mind to know that this family, who had seen so many incredible photographers walk in and out of their venue over their first year and a half of business, would want to meet with little ol' me to discuss photography for their daughter/sister's wedding. I will never forget that moment!
Maddie and Austin had such a beautifully intimate wedding. There were a total of 22 people in attendance as they committed their love to one another, including the bride + groom and their six attendants. Their parents and grandparents, who have all been married for decades, sat and watched as their legacy played out in front of their eyes on a perfect November evening in North Texas. The bride and groom exchanged vows under a sturdy oak as the sun sank slowly, illuminating every golden leaf left on the trees.
A huge thank you to the Baldwin and Carr families for entrusting me with this special day. It was such an honor to document the beginning of this marriage. Congratulations, Austin and Maddie. Have a fantastic time on your December honeymoon!
