mr + mrs jenkins // romantic mountain wedding at perry mansfield // steamboat springs, colorado
October 5, 2017
I still remember the day I received Sydney's inquiry about her September wedding in Steamboat Springs. It was a January evening. I was cold, and I had the flu. Hard at work that evening, I received an e-mail that made my heart race, and my fingers, in response, began to type as fast as they possibly could to respond. I knew from the moment I got that e-mail that I would do whatever it took to be on a plane from DFW to Colorado with my husband the last weekend of September to photograph this wedding. I have genuinely looked forward to that trip every day since I first heard about Sydney and Kyle's engagement, and their wedding weekend did not disappoint.
One of Kyle's groomsmen explained the night of their rehearsal dinner that most destination weddings are planned in order to keep unwanted relatives and other acquaintances at home while brides and grooms celebrate elsewhere with their exclusive inner circle. This could not have been further from the truth for Sydney and Kyle. At their rehearsal dinner, a large room of people came together from all over to celebrate two people who have deeply and significantly impacted their lives - the same two people who would exchange vows of unconditional love the very next day.
Sydney and Kyle did not plan a destination wedding to avoid a big party --- they planned a wedding in a place that was special to them that represented the adventurous dating relationship they've shared for the last six years --- a relationship that began their very first semester at the University of Texas. I've never seen a couple surrounded by so much genuine excitement and support on their wedding day. Every single person that attended their rehearsal dinner, wedding, and day-after brunch was so deeply happy to be there celebrating the first days of their life together as husband and wife. Saying that we were honored to be thrown into the bunch is the understatement of the year.
The weather provided plenty of challenges for everyone on the day of the ceremony --- the location of which was changed three separate times to accommodate the ever-changing forecast --- but the tight-knit group of friends and family that surrounded the couple last weekend pulled together to pull off a ceremony as perfect as any I'd ever seen, and the party that followed was, no doubt, the best reception I've had the pleasure of documenting.
If you're still reading this, I'm really impressed. I present to you all, the wedding of Mr + Mrs Kyle and Sydney Jenkins!
Kyle + Sydney,
Thank you both so much for asking us to come along for your wonderful adventure of a wedding weekend. Jonathan and I had such a blast and felt so appreciated and cared for by you and your families. I will always remember your celebration as my first destination wedding and my first time to get on a plane for work. Thank you for making that milestone in my career a reality and for bringing us to the BEAUTIFUL state of Colorado to do it. My camera and I felt so at home there, and we hope to be back to the mountains so, so soon.
