Isn't it crazy that you can have 40 mutual friends with someone but never actually be introduced?
Well, that is the story of our relationship - mine and Katie's and Rudi's. They are such good friends with people that I love and respect and have been friends with for years, but it wasn't until they got engaged and reached out about their wedding photography that we finally were able to connect.
And, goodness, am I glad we did.
The three of us road-tripped up to Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge in southwestern Oklahoma on Saturday. None of us had ever been there, and we were all completely overwhelmed with how beautiful it really, truly was. The absence of power lines and litter and noise of every kind was life-giving. I wish we had been able to arrive so much earlier, hike every trail, and scale every mountain around.
(Hint: This means I want to go back, and soon, all you lovebirds! ;))
Katie, Rudi, and their dog Kimber were the absolute best of sports. They agreed to drive over 5 hours that day from Denton and back again. They crossed a river for me on foot. They got their good shoes dirty, and they smiled all along the way. Heck, they even bought me a cheeseburger.
Picking a few favorites for this blog post was virtually impossible. It was a great day with two great people and a great dog - what more could I ask for?
Katie and Rudi,
Thanks for coming along on this adventure with me. Thanks for the way you welcomed me into your lives in such a sweet and crazy time and for trusting me with the responsibility of documenting something 27 years in the making.
